The 2016 Mini Cooper Convertible was launched in India at an ex-showroom price of approximately ₹34.5 lakh. This model featured a significant design update as it was built on BMW’s UKL platform, making it larger than its predecessor. The increased dimensions included a length of 3858 mm, width of 1727 mm, and wheelbase of 2494 mm, providing more interior space and better practicality.
Powering the Cooper Convertible was a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine producing 189 bhp, paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. It boasted a 0-100 km/h acceleration in about 7.5 seconds and a top speed of 228 km/h. The convertible roof was fully electric, capable of opening or closing in 18 seconds at speeds up to 30 km/h.
The interior featured a modern design, highlighted by a large, circular central display. Despite being a convertible, structural bracing helped maintain rigidity, although it added over 100 kg compared to the hardtop model. Safety features included six airbags, ABS, traction control, and roll-over protection bars. The boot capacity was 215 liters, which reduced to 160 liters when the roof was down.
