The Range Rover Velar was introduced in India in December 2017, initially priced at ₹78.83 lakh. Known for its striking design and luxurious appeal, the Velar embodies Land Rover’s road-centric ethos while still maintaining notable off-road capabilities. With distinctive styling, including burnished copper details on some trims, it features a sleek, minimalistic interior marked by the dual-touchscreen Touch Pro Duo system for seamless control of navigation, entertainment, and vehicle settings. This design contributes to a modern, uncluttered dashboard.
The locally assembled version, launched in 2019, offered a reduced price of ₹72.47 lakh and included more standard features such as a panoramic sunroof and advanced driver assistance options. Engine options included a 2.0-liter petrol engine producing 250 hp and a 2.0-liter diesel unit with 201 hp, both paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. The petrol engine is smooth and quiet, complementing the Velar’s dynamic handling.
Although praised for its interior quality and futuristic appeal, some critiques include a somewhat high price for its size and handling that doesn’t quite match more performance-oriented SUVs. Nonetheless, the Velar stands out for its design, advanced technology, and the blend of luxury and moderate off-road capability.
